Books of the Decade

Anybody remember how anxious and thrilled we were in those last months of the 20th century? When we weren't at war and we had a budget surplus and it looked like Al Gore would be president? The prospect of a 21st century filled with new technologies, new art and literature loomed large and bright. But now, as we look back at what was decidedly a shitty decade for an incredible variety of people in an equally incredible variety of ways (evictions/invasions/bombings/etc), it's surprisingly hard to be pessimistic about the books that assessed, satirized, dramatized and distracted us from the events of the past 10 years.

They say that fact is stranger than fiction but in my view, good fiction makes the facts more palatable. However, there is some good non-fiction out there. Tell us what you are reading and recommend what books/authors you have enjoyed.

Question Time

While trawling through booksites on the net, I came across a set of questions but passed them by. We've all seen these types of questions.  However, thinking it might be fun to see all our responses,  I searched until I found it again (no mean feat!). We may discover new books or authors to add to our 'must read' list. There will be a new question every couple of days, to give us time to think and reply.  Feel free to add questions of your own.
